Subject: [MDBirding] Ft. Dupont - DC Birding
Hello Everyone,

I've been having trouble sleeping recently, so I thought I'd use that to my advantage and get out early to do some late May birding in the District. I headed over to Fort Dupont with Wayne Baumgartner.

First of all, this is the most beautiful time of the year of visit Fort Dupont due tothe large stands of Mountain Laurel blooming in the highland areas of the park (south and east). Unfortunately, this lovely understory is mostly absent from other parks in the District (like Rock Creek).

Bird-wise we had some interesting stuff: resident Turkeys were gobbling, 3-4Hummingbirds were speeding around, a presumably male Black-and-White Warbler sang on the trail from the west parking lot leading to the community garden, a calling male Kestrel wasin the mature forest (east area of the park) on a snag, and finally a possible Blackburnian Warbler washeard by Wayne calling in the same eastern tall mature forest.

Good Birding!
