Grosbeaks (1/7) MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Howdy All! I did a roadtrip to Garrett County today (yeah, another 500+ mile day...) and visited the Gaffney's feeder near New Germany St Pk. About half a dozen Evening Grosbeaks (both male and female) came to the feeders around noon and were there for maybe 10 minutes before leaving again. The birds had been there earlier today, too, (from 10-10:30am). The birds are in the area every day, but are unpredictable about where and when they show up. Also at the feeder were numerous Black-capped Chickadees, White-breasted Nuthatches, Tufted Titmice, a single American Goldfinch, and a couple Purple Finches. I went to Dan's Rock in southwestern Allegany County to look for the Northern Shrike, but struck out. As a decent consolation prize, I saw both a dark phase and a light phase Rough-legged Hawk near Susan Sire's house. It was a VERY blustery day today on the mountain and landbird activity at the feeders was minimal. I drove down along the Canal to Old Town and drove the streets looking for feeders (all I found were empty ones). No Siskins today. I did have a single shrike candidate just west of the the exit for Rt 68 (not I-68) along the south side of I-70 west of Hagerstown. The bird was about 200 yards away and only seen with the naked eye (at a speed I won't mention ). I meandered through a few country roads trying to work my way back to the the field, but failed to refind the field or the bird. By the time I reached Frederick, it was already too dark to try for the other shrike. -Beltway Bushed, Greg Miller, Hollywood, MD __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
