NOT Patuxent River Park in PG County, which is often referred to as Jug Bay Natural Area) highlights: Lark Sparrow, Common Black-headed Gull and Sora. The sparrow has been seen most days since Christmas, and the gull was found yesterday by Danny Bystrak, and re-located today by our group. The Sora was heard. lowlights: very few sparrows compared to my last few trips to the farm. Others: Great Blue Heron: ~10 Swan sp: 2 at a great distance Canada Goose: hundreds Green-winged Teal: ~20 American Black Duck: ~ 100 Mallard: ~ 30 Northern Pintail: ~ 6 Merganser sp: 5 in bad light. Not Hooded. Ruddy Duck: ? seen by other observers Black & Turkey Vultures: 50+ on roost Bald Eagle: 1 imm, 2 adult Northern Harrier: 3-4 Red-shouldered Hawk: 1 Red-tailed Hawk: 1 American Kestrel: 1 Wild Turkey: 2 on PG side of river Killdeer: I can't count that high Dunlin: ~ 12 Common Snipe: 8 Herring Gull: ~15 Lesser Black-backed Gull: 1 Great Black-backed Gull: ~5 Rock Dove: ~10 Mourning Dove: ~ 20 Belted Kingfisher: 2 Red-bellied Woodpecker: ~10 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker: 1 beautiful male at VC Downy Woodpecker: 2-4 Hairy Woodpecker: 1 Pileated Woodpecker: 1 Eastern Phoebe: (1, we _think_) Blue Jay: ~20 American Crow: ~30 Fish Crow: 1 Crow sp: ~20 Carolina Chickadee: ~30 Tufted Titmouse: ~20 White-breasted Nuthatch: 3 Carolina Wren: at least 10 - many, this year! Golden-crowned Kinglet: 1 Eastern Bluebird: ~30 Hermit Thrush: 2 American Robin: 1 Northern Mockingbird: ~4 Brown Thrasher: 1 European Starling: ~60 Yellow-rumped Warbler: 1 Northern Cardinal: ~15 Eastern Towhee: 4 Field Sparrow: 2 Song Sparrow: ~25 Swamp Sparrow: 2 (where are they?)
