Here are my highlights from a little birding this afternoon (Jan. 8th) in Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens and Kenilworth Park (both in DC). I guess the 2 WOOD DUCKS at the Gardens aren't too surprising, and the SAVANNAH SPARROW at Kenilworth Park may well be a regular winterer (though this is the first time in 25 years of birding that I've seen a Savannah in January), but things really started to seem off when I found an EASTERN PHOEBE at the Gardens. But the bird that topped it all off was the adult TREE SWALLOW that zipped by in Kenilworth Park. Who'd of thought that it was January 8th? The swallow was the biggest shock - I've only ever seen these in winter on the coast. Certainly not this far inland. Good birding.
