Tekin" Subject: No.Goshawk - Harford County, MD MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: TEXT/PLAIN; CHARSET=US-ASCII Five birders from Monticello Bird Club, Charlottesville, Va, while birding areas including Susquehanna State Park and Conowingo Dam, happened upon an adult male Northern Goshawk on Sunday, January 9, 2000. Location: Rock Run Road On left hand side of road as you're heading to state park, there is a small pond with barn situated behind it further up a hill and brick house to right with tall evergreens lining the back yard area. To right of this brick house is a large pinkish-like house under construction. First seen at approximately 9:00 a.m. as it flew in front of pond and landed in trees behind brick house. It was perched on bare branches on right side but quickly moved into dense cover when we left vehicles. An hour later as we headed back enroute to the dam, the bird was spotted once again and all too quickly it moved into the trees out-of-sight. Fortunately another member in the second vehicle was able to see it long enough to id it as a No.Goshawk. We left for Conowingo Dam where we were able to observe a single Lesser Black-backed Gull and a juvenile Great Cormorant. Yesterday we observed a single Peregrine Falcon. Heading back to pick up 95-south we made a third stop on Rock Run Rd (12:05 p.m.) and the Goshawk was seen once again in the trees behind the brick house. Other highlights: From Bald Friar Road, Cecil County, late afteroon Saturday, January 8: flight of 1000+ Common Merganser heading south low on far side of river (assume they were in Harford County) Hermit Thrush Eastern Phoebe Best wishes, Brenda Tekin Member, Augusta and Monticello Bird Clubs Coordinator, Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch Charlottesville, VA ================================================================= To unsubscribe send a message to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ================================================================= =========================================================================
