Raptors and sparrows in evidence as usual this time of year. The sparrows were especially wary and then the male sharpie cruised into their brushy field. I could not get near enough to get good id's on many--there may have been more species present than I was able to identify; even though I was using 12x binocs. Turkey vulture-1 Sharp-shinned hawk,2 (male and female) Red-tailed hawk,1 immature Ring-billed gulls , approx 30-40 on commute to Millersville landfill Mourning dove,3 (! only 3) Downy woodpecker,1 Northern flicker, 1 Blue jay, 2 American crow, about 20 --also about 30 crow species. Tufted titmouse, 3 Carolina wren, 1 Eastern bluebird, 7 Northern mockingbird, 4 European starling, about 25 Cedar waxwing, 1--looked and looked for more, but just the one. Eastern towhee, 4-- 2 males and 2 females Fox sparrow, 1 Song sparrow, more than 5 White-throated sparrow, 42 (undercounted) Northern cardinal, 12 House finch, 10. Checked two times for the eastern screech-owl which has been seen roosting in a wood-duck box; but was unable to find it. Most all of these numbers are probably low. Except for the American crow, they are all visual identifications. The sun was low in the sky and color resolution was difficult.
