The 336 was 81.2% of our official list! My thanks to everyone who participated and made this a very popular feature. Comp List 2000 in now underway! Now that Iliff, Stasz, Armistead and Hafner have completed their January Big Day, our total is already up to 164, or 39.6% of the State list. These gents added 52 species to our initial listing of 112. Although we can't list each species, other contributors of "first" sightings so far include: Greg Miller, Gail MacKiernan, Les Roslund, Danny Poet, Charlie Muise, Danny Bystrak, Paul Woodward, Andy Rabin, Keith Costley, Stan Arnold, Brenda Tekin, Sue Hamilton, Dan Eberly. Norm and I contributed our Jan 1 list as well. There are still some notable misses, even for this early in the year. If anyone has an addition, please let me know. As in last year's Comp List, I will follow MDOsprey as closely as sanity allows for new species. Direct email is also welcome. Updates will be made as necessary and posted to MDOsprey. While you're over at the MOS Web Site check on the new additions. Charlie Muise's list of regularly scheduled walks is now up, as are Marshall's list of annually occurring species for those who missed it. We have also added Phil's notes on Winter rarities for those who missed that one and the unofficial checklist status of our famous gulls. Also check our NEW MOS NATURE STORE! Prices are very competitive and there is an interesting variety of bird books and field guides for you to chose from. All proceeds to benefit MOS programs. Good luck on the new comp list....and most of all, have a great birding year.
