There's a Painted Bunting at some elementary school in Va. Beach. Also, White-winged Crossbills are being seen in the Portsmouth area. For directions, check out the latest Virginia RBA (Perhaps also the Voice of the Naturalist RBA). I'll be doing the same thing this weekend, and staying at Fort Story for a couple nights. I was supposed to go out on Patteson's Va. Beach pelagic on Sat., but it was undersubscribed, and had to be cancelled (same trip last year ended up with no pelagic species, but I think this year would have been much different, based on reports from recent fishing trips.) Good luck with the trip; I'll compare notes with you at the end of the weekend. By the way, if you want to swap intel during the weekend, I'll be at the Cape Henry Inn, 757-422-8818; they often don't answer the phone due to volume of traffic, but in the evenings you may get a call through. On the way home on Mon. (or perhaps Sun.), I plan to try for the Harris and LeConte's Sparrows at E. A. Vaughan In Worcester Co. Oh, and on the way down, don't forget the Sandhill Crane on Tarbutton Mill Rd., that Les Roselund kindly updated for us. I'm stopping at Blackwater late Friday afternoon, hoping to pick up Golden Eagle, NRL Hawk, and Short-eared Owl, before continuing south. Good Luck!
