We had an excellent day with 91 species being our total. Highlights being: 10+ Red Crossbills at Henlopen, the birds were feeding in the pines by the point parking lot. They provided great looks and hopefully great pictures. 1 Tricolored Heron, 1 American Bittern, and 1 Short-eared Owl at the Indian River Inlet Campground marsh. 5 Harlequin Ducks at OC Inlet, but not much else 1 Clay-colored Sparrow at the OC Walmart, we failed to find any other goodies, but I must admit we mainly targeted the Clay-colored We dipped on the Assateague Campground #74 Orange-crowned Warbler described in an earlier post by Marshall. There was a family set up nearby and may have been the cause. At the Old Ferry Landing marsh on Assateague we were provided with great looks of 2 Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows plus 1 unid. Sharp-tail. There was also a Virginia Rail running around in the marsh. The pleasant weather combined with high quality birds, made for an excellent day.
