If you drove to the tree, you were trespassing. Anyway, I noticed the nest was gone after Hurricane Floyd, so I assume it was a victim of the storm. The good news is that the eagles are rebuilding even closer to the road in a tree about 100 feet from Stafford Road and on the north side of the driveway where they were previously located. The new nest is very visible and I am surprised you did not see it.
