Great Horned Owls:
At Cuckoo Creek Pine, male at roost was seen in good view at 3:50pm, the
female was not seen in the last two weeks (possible at nest). We left at
4:15pm to the Dead Owl's Hide where we see owls in flight for years. We
went there earlier because of gray cloud came in early and the male was
heard calling at 4:32pm. The pair was vocaling many times, more than we
ever heard. Between 4:32pm and 4:46pm, the male was calling 27 times and
the pair was calling 38 times. At 4:47pm, we spotted the male in flight
and landed on a dead tree, 3 minutes later he took off again to their
nest nearby. We waited for 13 minutes for the female to take off, but we
left at 5pm because of freezing temperature.
