Best bird seemed to be a mockingbird coming to my bird bath, but not to feeders. I put out a large frozen piece of freshly ground beef fat, with lots of nice red meat still clinging. I have had a crow with a bad leg (broken?) coming, and wanted to help it through the storm. It, along with many cohorts did find the meat, and ate at it slowly. Late in the afternoon, the family and I were in the living room playing UNO, when the phone rang. It was my neighbor, wanting to know what kind of bird was in the front yard... I got up and rushed to the window, in time to watch an adult Red-shouldered Hawk standing in the platform feeder pounding away at the fat! Must've been really hungry. I saw glimpses of this same bird perched in a large maple tree across the road during last weeks lighter snow storm, too, but finally got to see it in my feeder. New yard bird! Couldn't get to the camera in time, regretfully...
