KELLEY" Subject: Green-winged Teal at Lake Elkhorn MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit A female green-winged teal landed in an ice-free pocket of the lake near the swan feeding station in Swan Cove. She looked a bit bedraggled and immediatedly climbed up onto the lower horizontal beam of the shoreline bulkheading, about a foot off the water, and promptly fell asleep standing on one leg while leaning against the bulkhead wall. A short while later, from the other side of the cove, I looked back for her, but she was gone from her perch. I found her again standing (and sleeping) on the ice amid a crowd of comparatively giant mallards. Other waterbirds of interest included: American coot Lesser scaup (female) Ring-necked duck (male and female) Great views of these birds as the ice-free pools are very close to shore. F.S.
