It must be a sight to see them in the wild. I often wonder what it was like to see them in the days when their population was in higher stable state. Have a great trip and bring back stories for posting. Definitely carry your scope on and keep it overhead. This will assure you of what happen to it and it will be at hand incase you see something exciting at the airport before you get the luggage. I would recommend that you get a scope carrying case that will also accommodate your tripod. They are padded for protection and a well worthwhile investment. Please consider buying your birding supplies from a local mom & pop establishment and support our local birding economy. Any time we can, birders should put back into the communities and businesses that support conservation and our hobby. This goes for everything from frequenting restaurants like the Sea Breeze in St, Mary's County to buying your birding and optics supplies form local community stores such as the Wild Bird Centers. And let the business owners know you are form the Maryland Ornithological Society so they know that birders are supporting them. When we buy the Internet or from the megastores it is less likely you are helping our Maryland economy. Support your local business that support or encourage birding This little gesture goes a long way. Birding festivals like the Whooping Crane Festival that Ben is going to are another great way to help support local birding economies. Among outdoor activities, I believe birding still ranks second to gardening in contribution to the economy. Make a statement, buy locally and make your spending count. It really does make a difference.
