Up close, his feathers were clearly more dark brown than black, and the lores looked pale yellow. Yesterday, a large Sharpie (presumably a female) swooped at the Pileated, with no luck. What's the largest prey any of you have ever seen a Sharp-shin go after? (I've seen a Cooper's go after gulls.)
