The bird was with many Lesser Scaup up against the wall of Ft. McNair, right by a yellow PEPCO sign saying "Cable Crossing - Do Not Anchor." This location is just south of the Officers' Club, a building with white pillars. Sounds like pretty near where Paul Pisano saw it yesterday. Almost as interesting, there was a Ruddy Shelduck on the 6th fairway of the Hains Point golfcourse, right opposite where we saw the Tufted. The Shelduck, which is plainly an escape from somewhere, had a drooping left wing. Even the golfers gawked at it, knowing that it was something diferent. I called the Zoo, but was unable to talk to a human being so left a message on the voice-mail of the birdhouse. If anyone knows the identity of someone at the zoo who can query where a Ruddy Shelduck may have come from, please let me know. Curiously, the last time I saw Ruddy Shelduck was four years ago on Wood Green Reservoir, London (England). Those weren't countable either!
