It was in a flock of about 50 Lesser Scaup, a single Ring-necked Duck, and about 6 Canvasbacks. It was erect, displaying its tuft (plume) and coloration in very good light. If there are others like me who have scanned the huge rafts of Lesser Scaup on the Potomac during the last week or so without luck, I suggest you give the Washington Channel a try since the duck has been there now for the past three days, and you may only have to search through 50 or so ducks. If you go, scan the golf course for the Ruddy Shelduck. Today, it was being harassed by a crow as it grazed. I wonder where it escaped from.
