SCHREITZ" Subject: Woodcocks calling off Bywater Road Annapolis MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit The last few nights between 5:30 pm and 6:15 at least five woodcocks have been calling from both sides of Bywater Road. Tonight at 6:10 I finally saw one fly across the field and land about 50 feet from where I was standing in the field. I continued to listen to their calling until a fox (too dark at this point to determine what kind) walked through the field with no apparent agenda. They all fell silent and none flushed. A great moonlit night. A great birding spot close to town. I will be looking for serious flights come early spring.
