Both HP and the WC are in the District. From Jug Bay, take Rte. 4 west which will eventually turn into Pennsylvania Avenue. Then, take 395 south and exit at "Potomac Park". You'll want to proceed towards "East Potomac Park" which will take you along the WC which is on your left. There is parking at different points along the way. Eventually you'll have to curve around to your right which will put you at HP. (this is the point that juts out near the mouth of the Anacostia River [on your left] and at the junction of the Potomac River). The Tufted Duck has been seen as one looks across the WC towards the Ft. McNair (which is about half way to reaching HP) and has generally been fairly close to the stone "sea wall". Hope this helps, and GOOD luck! PS To Mary Ann Todd: Thanks so much for getting the word out so quickly last Sunday! I was able to see this lifer for about a half an hr. (along with several others) before the tour boat "kicked it up". Peter C. Got there in the afternoon, and the Scaup, though numerous, were pretty spread out. I did have 2 Redheads, ~25 Canvasbacks, ~6 Greater Scaup, 3 Common Mergs, ~6 Red-breasted Mergs. Where are Hains Point and Fort McNair? I just drove up and down the Mt Vernon Pkwy and got out at every spot I could see the river. But I couldn't locate these 2 spots on my DeLorma map. Am I just missing them? Or do they have aliases?
