Although we had seen this species in Vancouver, it was very nice to have a local sighting. The bird was found in a flock of Lesser Scaup (50), Canvasback (3), Red-breasted Merganser (2) and Pintail (1) off of Greenleaf Point at the end of 4th Avenue in Fort McNair. For those planning on visiting this weekend, the guards WERE NOT, repeat NOT letting people in the gate indiscriminately. He specifically asked for federal or military ID. So, be forewarned. If you can't get in the Fort, try looking for the flock from the end of 1st Street at Buzzard Point.
