We were refused entry to Fort McNair at about 10:30 this morning, Sunday. We headed off to Hains Point and did see the Tufted Duck among the Lesser Scaup flock that was just off the point of Fort McNair, and appeared to be just in front of the sign for the James Creek Marina. After seeing the Tufted Duck from Hains Point we decided to see if we could see it from the marina area at Buzzards Point. We stopped in the marina office, and were given the code for the gate to dock "E" and had wonderful views of the Tufted Duck from the end of this dock. There were also 262 Lesser Scaup, 3 Canvasback, 200 Canada Geese, and 3 or 4 American Coot. As we were leaving, we spoke to some birders (retired military) who were on the McNair property (Bill, et al?). We mentioned to them that we, and other non-military types, had been denied entry, but were satisfied as the light was better from the marina dock in any case.
