On the other hand, Ruddy Shelduck populations are declining, and most birds are restricted to areas of Turkey east. The only (small) European population is in Spain and migrates to No. Africa to winter. Even in western Europe, it is considered a very unlikely vagrant and reports are considered almost without exception to be escapes.
