MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Hi folks, Well I still haven't seen the Haines Point Tufted Duck, but... While birding the eastern shore yesterday, I heard a rumor about a possible Tufted at Silver Lake, Rehoboth, Delaware. I heard several people give their impressions of the report (apparently only one person saw it, in the evening). It was a male, and some folks thought it might be a Tufted/Scaup sp. hybrid. I kept to my birding plan, having decided to try to stay in MD as much as possible this year. Then I heard one had JUST BEEN SEEN at Spring Lake. I just couldn't take it. We headed for the border, successfully eluded the border patrol (German Shepherds - or is that Jack Russell Terriers? - and all). We saw HER - yes, a female. Found her by seeing a forest of scopes more valuable than my car. The head of Delaware's records committee was there. Nice guy, too. He told us that if valid, these would be the first TWO Tufteds in the state. So that is 3 in about a 3 hour drive, what gives? We saw the bird, and headed quikly back to MD. It was great yesterday, meeting a bunch of people in person whose names I've seen a lot here.
