Just got back from the Valley. The weather and birds were, of course, wonderful. My out-of-state goal of 500 ABA Area birds this year is coming along well at 344 species for 2000. Unfortunately, I've been out of Maryland 5 of the 8 weekends this year already. As you might already be guessing, I am missing some [um, a LOT of] Maryland birds this winter. Yeah, I'm grovelling around in the dregs in the 150+ range--no match for you *serious* listers. ;-) To anyone out there who's willing to offer some help or a tip on a recent sighting, I'd be EXTREMELY grateful. So here it is, the Miller Winter Wish List for Maryland ---------------------------------------- ++ MD lifers - I'm out the door in a flash + tough stuff I'd probably get out within a day or two ++Eurasian Wigeon (0 for 8 tries on Lower Easter Shore this year) +Common Eider (0 for 4 at O.C. Inlet) +Tufted Duck +Barrow's Goldeneye (still looking here at Pax River) Northern Goshawk Golden Eagle +Sandhill Crane (0 for 6 tries) Iceland Gull Thayer's Gull Glaucous Gull +Black-legged Kittiwake (missed on day before Iliff & Stasz had 4 birds--or some outrageous number) +Northern Shrike (0 for 6 tries from Frederick to Garrett) +Orange-crowned Warbler (0 for 4 tries on Lower Eastern Shore) ++Yellow-headed Blackbird (0 for 3 trillion, I think) +White-winged Crossbill +Common Redpoll (0 for 2) I am tentatively planning on hitting Conowingo this weekend (whichever day has better weather--probably Saturday) for gulls. With enough time, I'll probably bird Cecil and Kent counties, too in hopes of getting my first annual closeouts for the year. Maybe I'll see some of you all out there... -Greg Miller Hollywood, MD home) 301-373-3452 gregorym@erols.com work) 301-FIB-SICK (342-7425) MillerGB@navair.navy.mil cell) 410-599-3932 (only on during weekends) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
