I did the first of Patuxent Research Refuge's American Woodcock surveys =
tonight at the North Tract of  the refuge.
The route was a 4 mile route with 12 stops between 6:07 and 6:42 pm, =
(approx. 2 mins. per stop).
Am. Woodcock were heard at 10 of the 12 stops, either peenting or in =
flight with a total count of 19.

Additional pleasures included:  hearing chorus frogs and spring peepers =
calling, a great horned owl calling, two killdeer calling out in alarm =
at one site, seeing bats flying around at 3 sites, and several deer.
