While walking through the Home Depot in Germantown, a large bird suddenly appeared flying up one of the isles. I had just enough time to collect my wits (I found myself frantically grabbing for my binoculars which of course were not around my neck) and ID it as a Coopers hawk before it disappeared into the plumbing supply area. It's funny how the ID instinct kicks in before the absurdity of the situation. Evidently the hawk flew in while pursuing a house sparrow (several of which are often present in the store) and was flying around in the store all afternoon. With all the people present it was staying high in the rafters of the store and not likely to find the one small door they have left open for it to escape. Any hawk banders on the list that might be able to give them a hand?? I'm going to check back with them and suggest that they open their large garage type doors early tomorrow morning before the crowds come in. Any other ideas?? -- Rob Gibbs Damascus, MD robgibbs@digizen.net ======================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ======================================================================= =========================================================================
