Hi all -- We took the dogs for a walk in Northwest Branch Park (north of Randolph Rd.) It was very pretty, but fairly birdless for most of the walk, just the usual woodland fare...until we were almost back to where we had left the car. A little bird flock came through, heading north (yes!) and it contained four Yellow-rumps, one a fairly bright male, and two PINE WARBLERS, a nice yellow male and a duller female. There was also a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker apparently with them. While Pine Warblers do winter in this area, I know of none in the deciduous woods of Northwest Branch, so assume that these were early migrants. Anyway, very nice to see! When we got back to the house, a lingering Red-breasted Nuthatch was at the feeder. We think it is the same individual, a quite pale female, that has been here since autumn. Spring is indeed in the air!
