One of the Mourning Cloaks resented our intruding into his territory and flew about us rattling his wings, then landed briefly on both my and Barry's head (probably leaving a little "present" at the same time!) And the R-B Nuthatch is definitely gone -- sob! Today being a gloomy one, we are off to the National Gallery to see the Heade art exhibit. He is the fellow who painted those great pictures of tropical hummingbirds and orchids -- I have a print of one with a Red-tailed Comet, one of the jazzy Bolivian species we saw in 1997 -- and as he painted from skins, most of the hummingbirds are readily identified.
