I finally got brave enough to join the Howard County Bird Club (thanks to Bonnie Ott's constant friendliness and encouragement!) and to post here. At Wilde Lake in Howard County there's a Canada goose who thinks he's a mallard. He hangs out with the ducks, not the geese, all year. (Unfortunately, due to feeding, we have quite a few permanent, nonmigrating residents.) Every spring he picks out a female mallard with babies, chases everybody else off, and "adopts" the female and the ducklings! We call him a Canada duck ... or should it be a Mallard goose? ;-) Sherry Phil Davis wrote: > > I realize this transcends Maryland, but ... > > A few years ago, Barbara was in Italy and saw a flock of cormorants flying > in a "V", but at the point was ... a flamingo ... > > Go figure ... > > Phil > > At 08:39 AM 03/09/2000 -0500, Dave Harvey wrote: > >This morning on the way to work I saw a flock of Canada Geese (~50) in two > >V's.
