MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hi Folks, Yesterday was eventful at the Patuxent Research Refuge, North Tract. A flock of American Pipits, estimated at 60 in number, was feeding in a plowed field, on the left side of Wildlife Loop, about two miles past the Visitor Contact Station. I saw them at about 4 p.m., and another birder saw them at 5:30, but they haven't been seen since. Pipit is a bird I see only once or twice a year at the refuge. Also, moving through the woods near Duvall Bridge Road, was a flock estimated at 150+ Rusty Blackbirds, accompanied by a couple dozen robins. I've never seen Rusties move through the woods before, but they were travelling in a major mass, as blackbirds tend to do. Later, I ran into another flock of about the same size, but it may have been the same group. Today at the Wildlife Viewing area were an Eastern Meadowlark and Savannah Sparrow, both uncommon at the refuge, and generally seen only during migration. On Lake Allen today were 88 Ring-necked Ducks, 6 Lesser Scaup, an American Wigeon drake, a Wood Duck drake, a pair of Hoodies, and several Mallards. By the way, last Friday I counted 169 Ring-necks on Lake Allen.
