The highlights were 3 GOLDEN-CRONED KINGLETS in full regalia, their little "crowns" flashing in the sun. A half a dozen rusty FOX SPARROWS down along the stream. Some FIELD sparrows dueling from various elevated saplings. It's such a treat to watch them fling their little heads back and burst out with that lovely song! With the dying trees down in the "beaver valley" the woodpecker action was impressive. Drumming is really increasing and there is an enormous hole that appears to be a pileated's. We also found a CHICKADEE with solid white tailfeathers. Will pay closer attention to see if we can refind him (if some accipiter doesn't beat us to it). A pair of WOOD DUCKS flew by us a couple times. We'll see if they can find a spot and produce some babies this year. Bonnie Ott p.s. The Howard Bird Club is sponsoring a tree ID walk at David Force this saturday.
