Sightings of Camberwell Beauty even get up on the bird hotlines! (England also has an "Insect Line" where recent sightings of rare bugs are recorded). When we were in Finland last spring, we saw a Mourning Cloak. I asked some Finns what it was called, and they thought a bit, and said -- "well, translated into English, it would be something like 'garment of grief'" So in Finland it is also called "Mourning Cloak!" Btw, this is one of the species which overwinters and may be seen during the winter on unseasonably warm days. Most of the individuals now are probably overwinterers... Now, to add some birds to the "bug" discussion, we went for a NW Branch walk again yesterday and saw our first two pairs of Wood Ducks at a traditional area (where I think they breed). Not much else however, except -- a Mourning Cloak!
