We just started checking wood duck boxes at Patuxent Refuge a week ago, and discovered a hooded merganser had started laying eggs March 3rd... The earliest yellow book date for them is March 14th! And we found a goose incubating 5 eggs this afternoon. We usually don't seem them starting to lay eggs until the last week of March or first week of April. The warm weather has definitely gotten everyone in the mood a bit early!
