I found two Pied-billed Grebes in the Tidal Basin, flocks of American Coots and Double-crested Cormorants in the Washington Channel, and various Ring- -billed, Herring, and Greater Black-backed gulls about. From the 14th St. bridge I saw the highlight of my short noontime jaunt--an adult Bald Eagle circled over the Tidal Basin and the Jefferson Monument, then soared off downstream over Hains Point, bringing up clouds of gulls and making the Canada Geese really nervous. I wonder if any of the cherry-blossom-gazing tourists noticed?
