Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed For those MD_Ospreyians that don't subscribe to Birdchat, there have been several message threads on that listserver dealing with Ross's Geese ID a= nd conservation issues. No need to rehash those issues here, but it made me wonder, how many Ross's Geese winter in Maryland; how many are "blue morp= h" Ross's Geese (quite rare); and how many hybrid Ross's x Snow Geese are there, IF any? Based on the reports I saw this winter, I'd probably take= a stab at 6-10 Ross's on the Eastern Shore. Anyone have a better or more educated guess? This made me think of the Maryland (and later Mid-Atlantic) Gull Days tha= t several Maryland birders (Rick Blom and Gene Scarpulla, maybe?) organized= , several years ago--the objective being to count the number of wintering gulls and particularly the number of unusual gulls (Glaucous, Iceland/Thayer's/Kumlein's, California, Lesser BB, Laughers, Franklin's Ivory, Ross's [... just kidding], etc. So, would it serve any ornithological purpose to organize a "Ross's Goose Day" next winter? We could divide up the coverage of the usual Goose haunts (Blackwater, Hurlock, Snow Hill, Starr, etc.) and scour the flocks to see what we come up with. Any merit? Any interest?
