SCHREITZ" Subject: Pacific Loon ? at Quiet Waters MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello all, The question mark should have been on my earlier post for the Pacific Loo= n. Since it was first posted on Saturday, a second hand report, I have been = on the lookout for it. A later report by Stan Arnold indicated that the Pacific loon was still there. I raced to Quiet Waters to see if I could = get a better look from that side. What I saw was a breeding plumaged common loon and a smaller (perhaps) dark loon, but so far away that I could draw= no conclusions. This morning I went back and in the morning light I saw muc= h better detail. I was primarily looking to clinch the ID, thinking all th= e while what I needed to see was a chin strap. Elated, I packed up and nea= rly made it to work on time and posted my find. I see that it has caused qui= te a stir. I hadn't checked the yellowbook yet. I went back at lunch today and saw only an immature common loon and an eared grebe. Did the desire = to find the Pacific loon along with tricky early morning light and pressure = to get to work cloud my judgment? I can't say. I am no stranger to mistake= n ID's. But check it out. Quiet Waters' entrance is one block south of the intersection of Forest Drive and Bay Ridge Avenue, MD DEL Atlas DELORME = p48 c3.
