George,

Yes, I am aware of the changes, most of which are
reflected in the 3rd edition of the National
Geographic Guide.  I was using the term "raptors"
in it's more traditional, if not currently
taxonimically correct meaning of "big birds that
soar overhead and eat (live or dead)animals"  I
think I even mentioned the minor discrepancy in
my post - but I was likely not clear enough about
this false inclusion.

BTW, if anyone is interested, there have been a
number of posts (some of them not-so-friendly) on
this topic recently on BirdChat.

Though I am far from being an ornithologist, from
what I hear the changes regarding "new world
vultures" were made for very sound reasons -
morphological, behavioral and DNA - and the
changes were a long time in coming.
