THE highlight was Deal Island WMA in late afternoon and at dusk (3/24). W= e had 3 Short-eared Owls: one in full daylight flying around Riley Roberts = Rd, and two on the =93Green Dumpster Rd=94. One of those posed beautifully on= a branch of a low tree close to the road while it was still fairly light. T= he other was flying around in twilight. No Rough-legged Hawk this time. We h= ad 67 fly-over Black-crowned Night-Herons as full darkness drew near. On Riley Roberts Rd there were several hundred American Wigeon, a few doz= en Green-winged Teal, and at least one Blue-winged Teal, plus about 10 Great= er Yellowlegs. Also 2 Great Egrets but no other heron/egrets and no Glossy Ibis. NOTE: Riley Roberts Rd and the =93Green Dumpster Rd=94 have been thoroug= hly re-graveled and are much easier to drive than they used to be. We went to Ocean City Inlet 3/25. There were about 10 Red-throated Loons, and a handful of Purple Sandpipers, no Harlequin Ducks that we could find but the wind and waves were ferocious, as was the sun directly behind the area where they usually are seen. At Tyaskin landing, Wicomico Co, there were several Greater and Lesser Scaup. The Lesser was a county-listing =93close-out=94 for me. A fisherma= n said there were a lot more ducks there a week ago. ========================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ========================================================================= ===========================================================================
