After Bill Dobbins left to go down the Marsh Trail (which we didn't :-(, the second American Bittern that we had earlier glimpsed briefly flew up and over to a swampy section on the east side of the impoundments. The first American Bittern stayed in plain view the entire time, and indeed was still present, foraging, when we all left the KAG. Other birds we saw were a pair of Field Sparrows, a Canada Goose sitting on a nest near the park office, and a pair of Wood Ducks. At the wetlands area near the metro station near South Capitol Street, after 9 am were: 16 Common Snipes, a singing Brown Thrasher, and a female American Kestrel (likely the same one that has been there since at least January). Nearby along the Anacostia River were a passel of Double-crested Cormorants, a Bonaparte's Gull in basic plumage, and Barn, Tree, and N. Rough-winged Swallows.
