We had four singing Yellow-throated Warblers, one of which we saw well at the road to the Liberty Dam Trail. We also had 2+ very vocal La. Waterthrushes there in fierce territorial competition. Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are back, too (5+). Also we had a singing Purple Finch there. We couldn't see it, but the song - about halfway between a House Finch and a Warbling Vireo - plus some "pink" notes was pretty convincing. Landbirds were rather scarce at Powell's Run Rd, but we did have a Bald Eagle, the first I've ever seen there, and 2 fly-over Common Loons. Incidentally, I finally got my "close out" Green-winged Teal in St Mary's Co Monday morning without actually going back there. I finally found it on one of my lists (3/16/96), which is probably one of several I could sort of see in my mind at Beauvue ponds. To top that off, I found my close-out Brown Creeper in Talbot Co (04/93) the same way. BAN-ZAI! [SIC this time, I hope, if I can control the spell-checker].
