When I initially heard the call I thought it was an upset peeved squirrel that was worried about the hawk that made the next call. I was birding with my 2 years 3 month old nephew, so I couldn't trek thru the woods to spot the bird. As it flew through the trees it appeared to be an accipiter. The initial call was one that sounded like the squirrel was immediately followed by a clucking sound. The habitat was mixed pines with wetlands and meadows next to them. I found a raptor nest that could be this birds nest very close to where the hawk was calling. The Petersons CD has the Coopers Hawk, but not the Sharpie on it. The sound in the field seemed lower in pitch than the Coopers on the CD and it did not have the initial squirrel like sound. From this description can anyone help me out? Another example of incomplete bird call recordings is the Barn Owl. I have heard barn owls make clucking calls that i have not been able to find in guides or on recordings. Are there any good raptor call recordings that play all sounds made by raptors?
