Both days were fairly windy and unproductive for landbirds. However, a few notable things were around, with highlights as follows: Thurs, 6 April: * 1 Wild Turkey (county bird!), north of Ridgely, Caroline County * 23 Pectoral, 40+ Greater and 50+ Lesser Yellowlegs at flooded field 1 mi s. of Adkins Arboretum, Caroline County * 8 Caspian Terns and 40 Bonaparte's Gulls, Tanyard, Caroline County * 1 EASTERN KINGBIRD (very early) at Hurlock WWTP, Dorchester County * 3 Dowitcher sp., 3 Short-eared Owls, 2 Pectoral Sandpipers at Elliott Island At Elliott Island on Sat, 7 April (w/ George Armistead) we had 15 LONG-BILLED and 2 Short-billed dowitchers (both heard, 3 Long-billeds acquiring alternate plumage), 2 Black-necked Stilts, 1 "Eastern" Willet, 30 Dunlin, 6 Snowy Egrets, and 1 Red-throated Loon. On 10 April at the Beauview Ponds, Saint Mary's County, I had my first two Grasshopper Sparrows of the year. Today (11 April) my first White-eyed Vireo was singing outside my house. And finally, on 9 April I had an American Bittern of my own in my small rainwater pond at my house! My fourth yard record for the species. Best, Marshall Iliff miliff@aol.com ============ Marshall J.
