From: Michael Bowen Subject: Klingle Rd. Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Mike Milton: Saw your post to MDOsprey. I went over to the Klingle Rd. section today. Very windy but I did get: N. Flicker, Downy Woodpecker, Mallard, both Crow sp., Car. Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse, White-br. Nuthatch, Carolina Wren, White-thr. Sparrow, N. Cardinal. There were no migrants around anywhere. The area is pleasant but unexceptional in an ecological sense. The stream side is very eroded and damaged. There are many downed trees. The area of greatest ornithological interest is the "pond" just beyond the barrier at the upper end, below the exit from the Wash. Int'l. School. A pair of titmice were nesting in a cavity in an old stump there. For the life of me, I cannot see why DC would want to redo the road. Apart from resurfacing, there would have to be a substantial project (environmentally very unacceptable) to stop water from once again invading and undermining the road surface. Only commuters would benefit, and then only marginally. I cannot understand either why anyone living in this nice neighborhood would want the road reopened. I'll try to check the area again in May migration season and send you any bird sightings. Mike Bowen Bethesda MD __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
