At Courthouse Point best bird of the day was an **AMERICAN BITTERN, flushed at close range, excellent look as it flew off overhead. 4 OSPREY gave a nice show , circling over the impoundment as I scoped waterfowl. It was nice to hear a BROWN THRASHER in full song. ** GREATER YELLOWLEGS, ** NORTHERN PARULA, **GREAT EGRET, **FORSTERS TERN and **WOOD DUCK were observed and welcomed back. Waterfowl here included COOT, RING-NECK, GADWALL, SHOVELOR, PIED-BILLED GREBE, GREEN-WING TEAL. Also enjoyed great looks at a pair of agitated SWAMP SPARROWS, perhaps flushed from a nest site. At the Glebe Rd. Marina I picked up ** NORTHERN ROUGH WING SWALLOW, and ** LESSER YELLOWLEGS. Paydirt again at Bethel WMA with ** BLUE-WINGED TEAL. I had been hoping against hope for this species today and observed 2 pair preening contentedly on the shoreline in the sunlight for spectular looks. **COMMON MOORHEN are back at Bethel, also a **CASPIAN TERN hunting over the impoundment. Disappointingly enough,** COMMON YELLOW-THROAT the only other warbler heard from today at Elk Neck Forest WMA. The only down side to an otherwise perfect day was the several times my dogs forayed into mucky shallow waters and came out looking ( and smelling ) like swamp creatures.
