Arboretum this morning MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Despite the rather damp weather this morning, we birded the arboretum from 8:30 to about 11:00. Didn't see a lot; Brown Thrashers, a Palm Warbler, Chipping Sparrows, a Y-b Sapsucker, 2 Pine Warblers (heard), and still lots of juncos, W-t sparrows and Rc Kinglets among the usual birds. The most interesting thing, however, was a large number (to us, anyway) of towhees. I estimate that the total seen and heard was around 30, almost all in the main azelea garden. In thinking about it, I realize that the place we often see towhees is also in an azelea garden, at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton. Also, I realize that those we've had in our yard are usually in the azeleas. Is there a common pattern here?
