This survey is in its 3rd y= ear of a 5-year program, and on Saturday, April 15th, Debbie Terry, Gail Frantz, B= ob Ringler, and I conducted our early spring survey - one of eight surveys p= er year. The park complex is (allegedly) the second largest urban wilderness park = in the US - nope, don't know what the largest is...maybe Central. Ours is an inter= esting mix of old forest, succession forests, riparian, and open field habitats. Saturday's rains kept the numbers down, especially the surprising, and un= usual, lack of raptors, but some interesting birds nonetheless, especially when = you consider the location. Results were: Turkey Vulture - 4 Greater Yellowlegs - 1 Ring-billed Gull - 3 Rock Dove - 3 Mourning Dove - 9 Red-bellied Woodpecker - 5 Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 1 Downy Woodpecker - 8 Hairy Woodpecker - 1 Northern Flicker - 3 Pileated Woodpecker - 2 Eastern Phoebe - 2 White-eyed Vireo - 1 Blue Jay - 4 American Crow - 9 Carolina Chickadee - 7 Tufted Titmouse - 5 White-breasted Nuthatch - 1 Brown Creeper - 1 Carolina Wren - 3 Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 16 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher - 14 Hermit Thrush - 1 American Robin - 20 Northern Mockingbird - 7 Brown Thrasher - 1 Eu.
