I= t was drizzly and damp, and too overcast to get migrating raptors, but qui= te enjoyable nonetheless. The sightings were as follows: Black-crowned night-heron, 1 adult Canada goose, 7, fly-over Mallard, 10 Osprey, 2--nest on light tower at playing field American kestrel, 2--male and female seen regularly recently Killdeer, 4 --one apparently on nest with another very anxious bird nearb= y; did not do the classic "broken wing" routine Ring-billed gull, 1 Herring gull,1 Mourning dove, 6 Red-bellied woodpecker, 3 Downy woodpecker, 3-- one male, one female, one sex not noted Northern flicker, 7 Purple martin, 1 Barn swallow,1 Blue jay, 10 American crow Carolina wren, 6 House wren, 1 Ruby-crowned kinglet, 2 Blue-gray gnatcatcher,2 Eastern bluebird, approx 25; American robin, lots Gray catbird,1 Northern mockingbird,6 Brown thrasher, 6 European starling White-eyed vireo, 2 Northern cardinal, approx 40, may be a low estimate Eastern towhee, 15 Chipping sparrow, 20 Field sparrow, 10 Song sparrow,2 Swamp sparrow, 2 White-throated sparrow, 20 Dark-eyed junco, 6 Red-winged blackbirds Eastern meadowlark, 3 Common grackle American goldfinch, 20 We were unable to locate the American bittern, palm warblers or green her= on seen earlier in the week by the rangers.
