While torturing students with a field quiz under wet and = cold conditions late this morning (around 9:30am), we saw three Purple Martins= , one female and two males, perched in a dead tree about mid-way between mile 1= 66 and 165 on the north side of the C & O Canal, east of Oldtown. This is a sec= tion west of the curve and larger pool (that are west of the Potomac Forks cam= p spot), adjacent to some open fields. They looked damp and hunkered down = like most birds today. I will be back there tomorrow morning, and will report again. Selected other recent sightings: Fri. Apr. 14, C & O Canal North Branch (lock 75 area): Blue-gray Gnatcatcher Blue-winged Teal pair Common Snipe Rusty Blackbird Tues. Apr. 18, C & O Canal- east of Oldtown White-eyed Vireo- singing male Blue-winged Teal pair ========================================================================= To leave the MDOsprey list, send e-mail to listserv@home.ease.lsoft.com with the following message in line 1: signoff mdosprey ========================================================================= ===========================================================================
