We would love input from birders in the region to help "ground truth" the radar data we are collecting as part of the BirdCast project. You can enter the species you see in your favorite birding spot (and/or yard) through our BirdCast website: http://www.birdcast.org . Your tally will appear in the results section and reinforce the acoustic and radar data we are also gathering. As part of the BirdCast initiative the role of the Clemson University Rad= ar Ornithology Laboratory (CUROL) is to post predictions of bird migration i= n the Delaware Valley based on weather data and predictive models developed from earlier radar ornithology work. Here is their prediction for tonight and tomorrow morning: Forecast 20 April evening: Although weather conditions this evening will be favorable for bird migration, the threat of showers could reduce the expected amount of migration. If rain does not suppress migratio= n, reflectivity values (radar returns) could reach 15-20 dBZ (about 110-120 birds per cubic kilometer). If migration is underway when the rain starts, goo= d numbers of migrants may be forced to land. Andrew Farnsworth and Sidney A. Gauthreaux, Jr., Clemson University Radar Ornithology Laboratory Thanks for your help. If you have any questions, please send me an e-mai= l.
