Birds that visited with = me on my deck in Waldorf were: Three Common Loons - flyovers Two Great Blue Heron - flying low and calling. One Bald Eagle being harassed by a crow Canada Geese (5) One Mallard male 20 Mourning Doves Three Chimney Swifts Several Red-bellied Woodpeckers Downy Woodpeckers (3) Hairy Woodpecker (one calling bird) Northern Flicker (1) Pieleated Woodpecker (male) Singing White-eyed Vireo One silent Blue-headed Vireo (v.s. solitarius) 12 Blue Jays American Crows Fish Crows (6), maybe they will nest again here Tree Swallows (3) Barn Swallow (1) Carolina Chickadee (8) Tufted Titmouse (5) Red-breasted Nuthatch (1) White-breasted Nuthatch (4) Carolina Wren (singing in the distance) Ruby-crowned Kinglet (singing male) Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (3) Eastern Bluebird (nest in the front yard) Wood Thrush (first for the year for me and singing, such a treat) American Robin (6) Brown Thrasher scratching at the earth for split peanuts European Starlings ? Yellow-rumped Warblers (singing - 8 or so) Pine Warbler (singing on territory) Eastern Towhee (male scratching his heart out) White-throated Sparrow (6) numbers are down Dark-eyed Junco (3 numbers way down) Rusty Blackbirds (a flock of about 50 + birds stopped in the tree tops = later in the day briefly on there way north) Common Grackles (30) Brown-headed Cowbirds (a flock of 15 + birds flying over) House Finch (8) American Goldfinch (6) Three cups of coffee, six deer, 20 squirrels, and a chip monk. One Pearl = Crescent - first of the year for me. Good birding.
